I am an experienced civil litigator having represented clients in North Carolina’s state and federal courts for over fifteen years. I represent clients in many different types of civil cases such as:

Personal Injury Claims
Wrongful Death
Employment Discrimination
Wrongful Discharge
Race Discrimination
Civil Rights’ Violations
Gender Discrimination
Employment Retaliation
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
Breach of Contract
Negligent Misrepresentation
Fraud
Dangerous Property or Buildings
Contested Wills or Probate
Emotional Distress

Automobile Accidents
Catastrophic Injuries
Bicycle Accidents
Non-Competes or Restrictive Covenants
Dog Bites and Attacks
Police Misconduct
Workers’ Compensation
Equal Pay Act
Business Disputes
Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA)
Unfair And Deceptive Trade Practices Claims
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Premises Liability Accidents
Defective Products
Civil Claims for Sexual Abuse

I also represent clients in administrative matters before state and federal agencies including the North Carolina Industrial Commission, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the U.S. Department of Labor, the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Justice.

I also do a fair amount of transactional work. I review and draft all sorts of contracts, such as business contracts, landlord/tenant agreements, non-competition agreements (restrictive covenants), non-disclosure agreements, confidentiality agreements, severance packages, compensation packages, landlord/tenant agreements and many others. I help entrepreneurs form and start businesses, and I advise small to medium-sized businesses with state and federal employment law compliance. Because I have litigated cases in which poor legal drafting has led to hotly contested and costly litigation, I strongly believe my transactional clients greatly benefit from my litigation experience.

Overall, I am a litigator and trial lawyer at heart. From the moment I begin working on a client’s case, I work the case as if I will one day try that case to a jury. This means, I am always prepared to fight for my client in the courtroom. However, I also constantly keep my client’s objective in mind. Thus, even while I am preparing a case for trial, if my client’s objective is, for example, to settle the case, that is the objective I seek to achieve. With my client’s objective as my main goal and my continuous and relentless preparation for trial, my client receives outstanding legal representation.
